As an alternative, I'd suggest the flexible hard line that Napa has (Todd introduced me to it). You can buy it in pre-determined lengths (short) with fitting already on it, or in a roll.
I believe its a copper-zinc alloy, but don't hold me to that. Point is, its not steel, but it is metal, and was told its fair game for street use. You can bend it by hand (easily), and it flares easily enough that I made 12 flares on my truck (with no prior flaring experience) with the cheapest flare tool I could find, and none of them leak. The most important step is to take the time to debur each cut you make, otherwise they won't look right once you've flared them.

It seems to work good for a buddy of mine that runs dirt track cars. I don't think he has ever had any issues with it.

I use it and I believe in it.
I have been using it for about 4 years now, and the only failures that I have experienced are things like sticks popping up off the trail and crimping or pulling the line. These things I am sure would have broken metal line as well.
The beauty of it is you can fix it on the trail in about 1 min. with an off the shelf 3/16" compression fitting from the local hardware store.

Is there a pressure limit/rating on this stuff?
Does it get brittle at all when cold?
Is this common to see on the comp rigs? -since it's "lightweight".

I have read somewhere (Pirate I think?) that it is rated at 1900psi. I don't know this to be fact.
I can't say that I've ever had problems that I could attribute to the cold, but I'm sure extreme cold would cause it to be a bit stiffer.
I'd say that most comp buggies you see today are running this. I doubt you get any SIGNIFICANT weight savings, but the ease of installation and repair are the biggest reasons that they run them.
